Young Detroit Builders is dedicated to assisting young adults in transforming their lives to produce positive outcomes. We operate three programs to fulfill this mission:

YouthBuild Detroit/AmeriCorps is a 10 month full-time program that provides on-the-job construction training, GED preparatory education, career and life skills development, leadership development, and counseling for young adults. Job placement assistance is provided upon successful completion. Trainees build affordable housing for families and the homeless while they learn. A small stipend is paid to all participants who maintain at least 85% attendance. AmeriCorps members also receive an educational award at the end of their year's service.

Qualified Applicants Must Be:
18-24 years old
City of Detroit resident
Low Income
Lacking a high school diploma or GED

Detroit Construction Career Center is a partnership between the Detroit Workforce Development Department, Young Detroit Builders, and local employers to provide unemployed adults and displaced workers with classroom and hands-on education and skills in residential construction.

Qualified Applicants Must Be:
18 or older

Partnership for Permanent  Supportive Housing offers educational assessments, GED and basic Education classes, computer based education, employability and life skills classes to members of homeless households. Housing placement services, legal assistance, and family counseling is provided to clients through two partner agencies; the United Community Housing Coalition and Michigan Legal Services.
